Twice 'Best of Behance': How Two Sponge Projects Made the Platform's Curated Selection

By · · 4 min read

Sponge has received Behance's highest curatorial honor, Best of Behance, twice. On March 29, 2016, it went to the website concept for Business Logic Group, and on September 25, 2017, the mark went to the corporate website of investment company Helicopter View.

Behance is owned by Adobe and serves as a platform where designers, studios, and photographers publish their work. The 'Best of Behance' section is curated by the platform's team, and inclusion is by manual selection only, which is why the distinction is considered one of the most visible in the professional community. Sponge has received it twice, a year and a half apart, and both times the work was a website, not advertising graphics.

The Concept for Business Logic Group

The work appeared on Behance on March 25, 2016, and on March 29 it was chosen for the 'Best of Behance' selection. It was a website concept for Business Logic Group. Over its lifetime, the publication gathered 2,531 appreciations, 43,626 views, and 141 comments. For a project that existed only as a concept, such numbers meant broad audience interest, not just praise from industry peers.

In the same year, 2016, Sponge was also noticed in other professional selections. Bohdan Hnatiuk, the studio's founder, was mentioned early in the year in materials about IGate and design studio rankings, and the studio itself entered the Tagline ranking at position 67 alongside Saatchi & Saatchi. For a small Ukrainian bureau working mostly on remote orders, such positions were an important benchmark.

The Investment Company's Website

The second honor came in the autumn of 2017. The Helicopter View work, a corporate website for an investment company, was published on September 21, and on September 25 it was marked by Behance curators. At the time of the selection, the project had 1,777 appreciations and 28,786 views. A client from the financial sector rarely becomes the hero of visual selections, so the site stood out against a portfolio dominated by websites for musicians, brands, and media.

In the same weeks, the work received honors on other platforms. On September 28, 2017, Helicopter View became a 'Star' on CSS Winner. This is an English-language web design gallery where sites are evaluated by professional juries and users, and individual works receive SOTD (Site of the Day) and Star statuses. On October 4, the site received an Honorable Mention on Awwwards, an international web design competition where honorable mentions go to works that did not win but were selected by the jury. For a studio working primarily for export, such honors had direct commercial value: they are seen by Western clients who look for contractors through portfolios.

On the same day, September 28, the 2017 'Rating of the Runet' was published, where Sponge took fourth place in the digital agency creativity category. The Behance, CSS Winner, and Awwwards honors, together with this ranking, formed a notable series within a single week.

What Came Next

Behance honors continued after 2017 as well. In total, in 2016–2017 the studio had a series of CSS Winner Star and SOTD awards, as well as curated Behance honors in the UI section. The last curated Behance honor came on June 15, 2018, and related to the OneClickMoney project. In the 2018 Rating of the Runet, Sponge took tenth place with 51 awards, and in 2019, when Bohdan Hnatiuk was listed as CEO, the studio was in 37th place with the same 51 awards.

As of October 19, 2026, the bureau's profile spongedigital on Behance had 387,933 views, 41,391 appreciations, and 7,884 followers. The profile contains 28 curated honors across 48 public works, and two of them relate to the websites discussed in this story.
