Carts Guru: A Behance Curator's Pick in Branding

By · · 4 min read

On 30 November 2015, the identity for the French service Carts Guru, created by the studio Sponge, received a Behance curator's pick in the Brands gallery. It is the bureau's only work recognized in branding. The service's website and interfaces received separate recognition in 2016 and 2017.

The client was the French service Carts Guru. Its product belongs to the SaaS class—software that the customer uses through a browser by subscription, without installation on a computer. For such services, appearance is almost as important as function, so the studio created the complete digital look: logo, presentation materials, website, and the interfaces of the product itself.

The identity appeared on Behance on 19 November 2015, and eleven days later the platform's editors selected it for the Brands gallery. Behance, owned by Adobe, serves as a platform for publishing portfolios. Curator's picks are made by the editorial team, which selects individual works into thematic collections and thereby brings them to the attention of a professional audience. At the time of selection, the work had gathered 412 appreciations and 2,486 views. In the Brands category, this remains the only such recognition in the bureau's history on Behance.

A website that was noticed immediately

In March 2016, the Carts Guru website received Site of the Day status on CSS Winner on 6 March. This is an aggregator site that daily highlights one work as the best site of the day and keeps separate marks for stars and nominees. In the bureau's profile on CSS Winner, the work is listed among nine Site of the Day awards, and in the same year another SOTD mark went to the Trendon store on 10 July 2016.

On 3 June 2017, a curator's pick in the User Interface gallery on Behance went to the service's website. The gallery is dedicated to screens and the logic of interaction with them, so the recognition relates to how the user navigates the site and works with its elements. In parallel, the bureau's portfolio includes a case titled "Interfaces for a SaaS product," in which Carts Guru is listed as the client. Thus the work on the appearance of the site and the product was presented in two different sections.

The bureau against the backdrop of the industry

Carts Guru was one of the studio's notable projects in 2015 and 2016, but not the only one. On 30 June 2015, a work for Madonna appeared on Behance, and on 21 September of the same year Sostav included it in its selection "Best Projects of the Summer from Behance" in the motion design section. In March 2016, Behance recognized the Business Logic Group work, and in September 2017, on the 25th, the Helicopter View project received a mark. In total, curator's picks on Behance appeared regularly for the bureau up until 15 June 2018, when the last one was for the OneClickMoney project.

In the Runet rating in 2017, the studio took fourth place among digital agencies for creativity, and the rating included 47 awards. In 2018, the bureau rose to tenth place with 51 awards. In September 2018, in a job posting on, the bureau described itself as follows:

more than 60 awards in two years

The founder of the studio is considered to be Bogdan Gnatyuk. He is one of the creators of the Looks.fm service, which Korrespondent wrote about in early 2015, and in interviews and publications about Sponge his work was called one of the foundations of the bureau. In 2019, the studio took thirty-seventh place in the same rating with 51 awards, and Bogdan Gnatyuk is listed as CEO.
