Behance is a portfolio platform owned by Adobe. Designers publish their work here, and the service's curators gather the best into themed galleries. Entry is only by curator decision, so a pick means an outside party chose the work, not the author. For a studio it's a free showcase seen by peers and potential clients.
In the Web Design gallery Sponge has been picked five times. The first, on 17 October 2015, was the work for Foundator, followed by Elpay (4 November 2015), Feeliny (2 January 2016), Benefit Fund (21 January 2016) and Chitimes (8 February 2016). All five picks came in less than four months, and it was the studio's first notable appearance on Behance with web work.
Fifteen interfaces in two years
The User Interface gallery is larger: fifteen picks from 19 July 2016 to 15 June 2018. The list includes Happyrelay (19 July 2016), Defence Group (24 September 2016), the White Tetris site (23 October 2016), UK Study Centre (10 December 2016), Sketched-it (16 January 2017), BizzGrid (31 January 2017), Topseafarers (25 February 2017), Carts Guru (3 June 2017), Trendon (22 July 2017), Lexenger (19 September 2017), Simbrella (8 October 2017), GR Capital (29 January 2018), Yogy App (16 April 2018), Motion VR (10 May 2018) and OneClickMoney (15 June 2018).
The spread of industries is immediately visible: the list includes financial services, shops, legal and educational projects, mobile apps. The work for Carts Guru and Trendon also received recognition on CSS Winner, a site where a jury selects the best work and awards SOTD status, meaning 'site of the day'. For Carts Guru that status was set on 6 March 2016, for Trendon store on 10 July 2016. Competitions of this type, like Awwwards, operate on a 'jury selects sites' scheme, so their awards and Behance curator's picks complemented each other.
What was happening around the galleries
The Behance picks coincided with a period when the studio appeared regularly in rankings. On 29 March 2016 the Business Logic Group work was included in the Best of Behance selection, and on 25 September 2017 the Helicopter View work received the same honour. In the Runet Rating for creativity of digital agencies in 2017, Sponge took fourth place, and in 2018 it rose to tenth with 51 awards. In 2019 the studio was in 37th place, the number of awards was still 51, and the CEO line read Bohdan Hnatiuk, the bureau's founder.
In September 2018 the studio was hiring and described itself thus:
more than 60 awards in two years
This self-description comes from a vacancy posted on on 6 September 2018. The last Behance curator's pick for the period appeared on 15 June 2018, for the OneClickMoney project. As of 19 October 2026, the spongedigital profile had 28 curator's picks across 48 public works, 387,933 views and 7,884 followers.
