Nine 'Sites of the Day': How Sponge D&D Collected CSS Winner Honors in Two Years

By · · 4 min read

From June 13, 2015, to August 23, 2017, nine Sponge D&D projects received Site of the Day on CSS Winner. The first honor went to the bureau's own site with a final score of 7.5; the last was the site of singer Artyom Pivovarov.

CSS Winner is a web design gallery where sites are evaluated on four criteria: design, functionality, usability, and content. The best works receive Site of the Day status. For a design studio, such an honor means the work passed a comprehensive review across all four areas, not just appealed to the public.

The first was the bureau's own business card

On June 13, 2015, the new Sponge Digital & Design site received 'Site of the Day.' The jury gave design 7.6, functionality 7.6, usability 7.5, and content 7.3, for a total of 7.5. The gallery's description of the site reads:

Interactive presentation of the Sponge D&D company and 377 jobs in the portfolio

The site was also an interactive showcase of the portfolio, which the description valued at 377 works. In spring and summer 2015, the work went through a series of honors: besides CSS Winner, it collected awards on CSSDA, CSS Nectar, CSS Light, BestCSS, and Awwwards. The studio posted the case study on Behance on May 8, 2015. This line continued a long tradition: in December 2013, the bureau had already received an Honorable Mention from Awwwards, one of the most famous international web design galleries.

Construction, delivery, and services

On December 19, 2015, 'Site of the Day' went to the promo site of the construction store 'Kvadrat.' For this client, the studio developed the name, logo, and corporate identity, so the promo site became an extension of an already finished brand. This order of work, where a site grows out of a corporate identity, is considered normal in the industry, but in practice it is rare.

On February 4, 2016, the honor went to the Furgoneta delivery site. The same day, Korrespondent wrote about it and CSS Light. A month later, on March 6, 2016, 'Site of the Day' was awarded to the Carts Guru service. Both projects show that the studio worked not only with brand showcases but also with interfaces people use every day.

On July 10, 2016, 'Site of the Day' went to the Trendon online store. In September of the same year, the honor went to the site of the law firm White Tetris, on September 4, 2016. For the legal sector, where sites are usually built from templates, such an evaluation looks like a notable result: both content and clear navigation matter here.

Hotels, services, and the last work

On January 17, 2017, the honor went to the BizzGrid service. On February 4, 2017, 'Site of the Day' was awarded to the site of the Odesa hotel M1 Club Hotel. At the same time, CSS Winner issued an honor to one of the projects, and on February 14, 2017, a nomination for the Hijina work appeared in the profile.

On August 23, 2017, 'Site of the Day' went to the site of singer Artyom Pivovarov. On August 25 of the same year, the work received Site of the Day and Developer from Awwwards. At the time of the last honor, the bureau's CSS Winner profile listed 21 works, 9 SOTD, 6 Star, and 6 Nominee.

Bogdan Gnatyuk, the studio's founder, also participated during this period in the Looks.fm project, which he created together with the team. In September 2017, the bureau's works continued to receive recognition: on September 25, a Behance publication about the Helicopter View project was released. On September 28, 2017, the Rating Runeta placed Sponge's digital agency creativity in fourth place.
