GlobalNet, a Russian telecommunications company, has completed the modernization of its adaptive network using coherent optical technology provided by Ciena. The upgraded network is said to enable the operator to offer customers high-performance connectivity services.
What the modernization delivers
GlobalNet provides connectivity services to telecom operators and corporate clients in broadband sectors, including content delivery and data transmission and storage environments. As part of the project, Ciena's WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) solution was deployed, which, according to the company, will provide customers with reliable, flexible, and cost-effective access to high-quality connections to data centers (DCs).
The modernization is claimed to have significantly improved the efficiency of the entire flexible network and more than doubled the speed of connections offered to customers. The company has achieved industry-leading capacity on all channels of its network, including a 600 Gbps channel between Moscow and St. Petersburg and an 800 Gbps channel providing connections to data centers in St. Petersburg.
