Behance is owned by Adobe and serves as an online portfolio for designers, illustrators, animators and architects. Works are published by the authors themselves, and the platform's galleries are divided by discipline. Behance curators select the works they consider the best in their field and give them a stamp, after which the publication appears in the platform's themed showcase. Each work displays user ratings and view counts, so for authors a curator's stamp means a noticeably wider audience.
Recognition in the animation gallery
The White Tetris promo video was recognised in the Animation Design gallery on 23 August 2016. At the time of the stamp, the work had 588 ratings and 5,071 views. Behance's animation gallery is constantly updated with new works, and being among those recognised by curators means the video stood out amid a large flow of publications.
White Tetris became the only Sponge work to be recognised by Behance curators in two disciplines at once. The second stamp relates to the website, which was included in the interfaces section. Thus the same project gained recognition in two different sections of the platform, where different specialists are usually represented: animators in one and interface designers in the other.
The studio's experience on Behance
This is not Sponge's first experience with the platform. The bureau's Behance profile was created on 23 August 2013. In 2014, the Alien video received a stamp in Motion Graphics, and in August 2014 it was noticed in the Adobe Motion Graphics Served selection. The Madonna work appeared on Behance on 30 June 2015, and on 21 September 2015 Sostav, in its selection 'Best Projects of the Summer from Behance', named it among notable works in motion design.
The studio's video works at this time ran parallel with websites. In spring and summer 2015, the bureau's works received a series of stamps on CSSDA, CSS Nectar, CSS Light, CSS Winner, BestCSS, CSSReel and Awwwards. These resources select websites that stand out in web design and award them 'site of the day' (SOTD) and similar stamps. Even earlier, on 5 December 2013, Awwwards gave the studio an Honorable Mention.
The studio and its founder
The founder of Sponge remains Bohdan Hnatiuk, who is also known as one of the creators of the Looks.fm service, which Korrespondent wrote about in February and March 2015. Under his leadership the studio continued to take part in professional rankings. In 2016, Tagline placed the studio 67th in its ranking of design studios, in the same position as Saatchi & Saatchi.
In early 2016, Kirill Solyar was listed in IGate's selections as executive director of Sponge D&D. The studio's works, including White Tetris, during this period were built on the combination of video and website, which the client received from a single team.
The White Tetris video remains in the Animation Design gallery with a curator's stamp, and the project's website is listed in the interfaces section with a separate curator's stamp on the same platform.
